Applus+, the leading Spanish multinational in testing, inspection certification and technological services and one of the ten largest worldwide, has finalized the acquisition of Àbac, a Catalan engineering firm specialized in the aeronautical, railway, automotive and mechanical sectors.
Àbac began its operations in 2004 and is headquartered in Barcelona. Today the company has fifteen employees and provides engineering services to develop equipment for several industries. It also develops R&D projects, as well as conceptual and product design, inverse engineering and outsourcing activities. Last year 85% of the company’s overall turnover was achieved through its active collaboration role within the aeronautical industry.
Àbac’s customer portfolio includes regular client companies such as Aritex, the firm of the Comsa Emte Group which has recently been awarded a contract with Airbus to develop several components for the future A350 jet; as well as collaboration projects with Sener, Sintex or the MTorres Group.
According to Joaquim Coello, CEO of Applus+, “we are extremely pleased about entering into this partnership with Àbac due to its excellent results achieved well since its establishment in 2004. The addition of Àbac will allow Applus+ LGAI to improve our accredited testing capabilities and offer more differentiated services thanks to Àbac’s technical capacity in terms of engineering services, which are highly demanded nowadays by several of our customers in the aeronautical sector”.
